New Strands in Photo Research

Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan
Hippolyte Fizeau, Experimental etched daguerreotypes, c. 1843, various collections
This doctoral workshop brings together three international scholars, Steffen Siegel, Kelley Wilder, and Martin Jürgens, as visiting researchers for an intensive programme of seminars, discussions, and collaborative working sessions. Conceived as a collective laboratory, Thinking Photography approaches photography as an intermedial and institutional phenomenon, whose histories emerge at the intersection of images, objects, technologies, archives, markets, and social practices. The aim is not only to present new case studies, but also to critically reflect on the epistemological frameworks through which the history of photography is currently written.
